When it comes to startups in Germany everyone is talking about “Berlin”! Of course Berlin is on the top of the European startup scene, nobody can deny that. But in today’s post we’re going to talk about the awakening of one sleeping beauty-city for startups that we visited. We are talking about Frankfurt am Main.
We started our “Frankfurt startup” tour by attending the Fuckup Nights Frankfurt on the beautiful campus of the Goethe university. More than 350 people came to listen to German entrepreneurs… not talking about their success but about their biggest business “fuckup”. Which turned out to work not only as an entertaining but very valuable advice. Volker Geyer from Malerische Wohnideen, Michael Hübl from Flinc and Christoph Burkhardt, Managing Director of Columbia Leadership Group shared their most difficult moments of their entrepreneur’s life, how they got over it and what they learned from it. The evening was rounded off with talks about the evolution of ideas in organizations and collective intelligence.
Then we decided to do our duty, by participating in the Startup Weekend FinTechCity! The event was hosted in the impressive Silver Tower of the Deutsche Bahn AG in the financial district of Frankfurt. 80 people from different countries and backgrounds participated. All trying to reinvent the future of the Finance industry. As always the support of a great team of mentors and a jury from the banking and FinTech industry like UBS, FastBill and Crowd Desk, allowed participants to push their limits in only 54 hours! Our team was fantastic and we made a lot of new friends in town.
This fantastic place combines a coworking area and works as an incubator for social entrepreneurs and startups. The Lab opened in February 2014 and is currently the host of 38 startups. They also organize several workshops and conferences each month, so check their website for upcoming events!
If you are free on December the 3rd 2016, you are invited to meet us at the Social Impact Lab. Starting from 6:30 pm, WeAreStartup will cohost an event with the Social Impact Lab under the topic of “new work”, innovative leadership and finding better ways of working together. We would love to meet you there!
